Windows 98 and Windows 95
If you intend to use the Voice First feature with Call Waiting, you will need to run the Voice First Utility, provided on diskette. This is necessary because in some areas of the United States, the length of time before the modem disconnects following the loss of carrier requires adjustment based on local line conditions.
The range of acceptable line sensitivity values is 14 through 255, with 14 being the least sensitive and 255 the most sensitive. If your modem disconnects frequently, decrease the Voice Detect Sensitivity value which will decrease the modems sensitivity to incoming calls. A setting of 14 is the least sensitive and will cause the fewest disconnects. To install the utility, do the following:
Windows NT 4.0
If you intend to use the Voice First feature with Call Waiting running under Windows NT 4.0, you will need to enter the following modem commands:
S10=19
In some areas of the United States, you may need to adjust the S10 register for line sensitivity. The S10 register sets the length of time before the modem disconnects following the loss of carrier.
The range of acceptable values is 14 through 255, with 14 being the least sensitive and 255 the most sensitive. A setting of 14 is the least sensitive and will cause the fewest disconnects. We find that S10=19 works well in most regions. If your modem disconnects frequently, decrease the S10 setting which will decrease the lines sensitivity.
NOTE: If you are using non-Windows applications and wish to use Voice First, add the above commands to your modem initialization string in your application.
To add these commands for Windows NT applications: Start Control Panel. Go to Modems, Modem Properties, Properties, Connection Tab, Advanced, and Advanced Connection Settings. In the Extra Settings box, enter the commands, as shown above, and click OK twice then Close to finish.
NOTE: The VoiceFirst feature allows your modem to detect an incoming call automatically, and drops your connection to allow the voice call through (requires call waiting). When the line becomes free, you are re-connected to the Internet automatically. Call Re-connect requires the Boca MidPoint Teamer software. For features such as Modem Teaming and Failsafe Downloads, and re-establishing connections, install the Boca MidPoint Teamer software.
